WHAT'S GOING ON?

We utilize three organizations to block known relays.  They are; ordb.org (http://www.ordb.org), dsbl.org (http://www.dsbl.org) and spamcop.net (http://www.spamcop.net).  Each of these sites lists instructions for mail system administrators of blocked domains to remove their servers from the list.  They also explain how a domain may end up on the list, even if they are not the original spammers (mail relay - others can openly send email from this server even if they hold no account on it) or even if their server is not defined as a mail relay (mulit-hop relay - a mail server authorized to relay mail from this server has been defined as
an open mail relay).

These lists are not intended to punish those domains that end up on them, but rather are designed to help educate mail system administrators that they have an open/insecure mail server that can allow others to harm/deny third party mail servers from being an effective communication tool.  The end result often is less spam traffic as mail system administrators tighten control on their servers.

If someone you know is unable to send mail to you and the mail returned says it was rejected by mail2.arctic.net, the chances are that either your mail server or a mail server that your mail server passes through to send outbound email may be on one of the lists.  Simply email your system administrator with an attached copy of your returned mail and the paragraph from above indicating where they can check to see if their server is blacklisted.  They can then begin the process of correcting the problem, often in as little as 24-48 hours.

WHAT TO DO:

If someone is trying to send email to you and it gets rejected, they need to contact their email administrator or whoever they
have email through and send them a copy of the rejected mail along with these 3 links.

You can check to see if a sending email address is blacklisted by clicking the following link. Got Blacklisted?  When using the search option, you would enter the email address domain that is trying to send you mail. For example, if "Bob" is trying to send you mail from "bob@maildomain.com" you can check to see if "maildomain.com" is blacklisted by typing "maildomain.com" into the search field on the main page of the above link. If the results show positive matches, (listed in red) the email domain you entered is in fact blacklisted. However, if there are no positive matches for the email domain and you are still unable to receive email from the specific domain, please contact Technical Support
